Did Jesus ever claim to be God?

Simple answer is yes.

My go to verse is John 8:58.  Where Jesus says that he is the, "I AM".   Exodus 3:13-14 When God is speaking to Moses through the burning bush.  Moses ask God who shall he say sent him and God answers Moses to tell the children of Israel that, "I Am", sent him.

God and Jesus call themselves the "I Am".

First I would ask the person who is asking the question if they believe in God.  Because if there is no God, you can explain any suffering as probability...this is how the world is, how the world works, accidents happens,  its natural order, and so on.  Next I would want to know what's the criteria for calling an natural event a natural disasters.  Because the vast majority of natural events do not get front page news coverage, like a hurricane that never hits land.  Now we need to know if all natural disasters are bad.  The answer is no.  Some natural disasters can have a a very positive impact on an environment like earthquakes.   Earthquakes can release an enormous amount of minerals that are a source of food and nutrition for ocean life and human life relays on some of that ocean life for food.   So what makes a natural disaster bad?  They better not say the lost of human life, if they don't believe in God.  In their worldview, what makes a human life more valuable

Was King David real?

Crucifixion Evidence

In 1968, a Jewish cemetery was discovered with the remains of a nail going through a heel bone.  The nail was bent over the spiked end to hold the foot in place during a crucifixion. There was remnants of a piece of wood found at the end of the nail.  In 2007, a body buried about 2,000 years ago is believed to have died by crucifixion.  The skeletal remains of his heel show that he was nailed to a cross. These discovery provides evidence that crucifixions really took back in Roman times during Jesus's life. It also corroborates the story of Jesus's death as written in the gospels. Jesus claimed to be the truth.  Now we have two discoveries the further confirm the bible as a true and historical document.
